Maximin Grünhaus – 2020 – Maximin Pinot Noir – 750 ml.
Country: Germany
Region: Mosel
Varietal: Pinot Noir
Vintage: 2020 – Size: 750 ml. – Type: Red
The 2020 Pinot Noir is extraordinarily complex and layered on the nose. Its flavors range from dark chocolate and Earl Gray tea to eucalyptus and hints of incense. Its fruit is reminiscent of blackberries, sweet raspberries, but also elderberries, black cherries and preserved plums. There is also moist tobacco and an enormous spiciness reminiscent of nutmeg, pepper and liquorice.
Sweet cherries, plums, as well as red and black berries such as currants and cassis are evident on the palate. It also shows vegetal notes of green asparagus and artichoke. The spice is reflected on the palate: cloves are added to nutmeg and black pepper. In addition, a slight saltiness brings enormous tension on the palate. The acidity is wonderfully integrated and rounded off by velvety, fine tannins.
Expert Notes
James Suckling: 93
Subtle and sophisticated nose of red cherry with notes of liquorice, wet earth, allspice and smoke. The impressive tannin structure and a lively acidity balance the concentrated fruit very neatly. Long, moderately dry finish with plenty of licorice and a touch of smoke. Drink or hold.
